Vital Signs Appeal 2014

Personal Care…Close to Home is the theme for this year’s Vital Signs appeal for the Prince County Hospital Foundation.  The areas of greatest need at the Prince County Hospital (PCH) vary but each has one thing in common – they are essential to providing the quality health care that Islanders need.  Many pieces of equipment that were purchased when the “new” PCH opened ten years ago are now in need of replacement or have already been replaced.  In order to address the need for new technology and to keep pace with industry standards, the revitalization of the Diagnostic Imaging Unit (DI) at PCH began in 2013.  Earlier this year, thanks to community donations in 2013, the unit was able to create a dual purpose room outfitted with a new portable x-ray unit, as well as a new fluoroscopy machine at cost of $770,000.  This year, in order to provide the best care for patients, $1,250,453 is needed to equip the Prince County Hospital. This large goal again includes great needs in DI like the three ultrasound machines that were urgently needed and have been replaced at a cost of $510,000.  “Most people would recognize this technology for its use during … Continued

2013 Campaign A Success

The year 2013 offered some of the greatest challenges and greatest successes since the Prince County Hospital Foundation opened its doors in 1993.  The Foundation’s 20th year brought with it their largest single year campaign goal of $1,308,345.  “We are incredibly pleased to say, that we surpassed our goal in 2013,” says Heather Matheson, Managing Director at the PCH Foundation.   “We are truly amazed by the continued generosity of our caring communities.” “Exceeding our goal is a significant milestone made possible by the extraordinary generosity of Foundation supporters, who have demonstrated their commitment to the PCH and its longstanding mission of “Getting Better…Together.” said Matheson. “More important than that extraordinarily large dollar amount is the impact that these funds will have—on the lives of our friends, family and neighbours who use the hospital each day. The donations made to all of our initiatives ensure a bright future at the PCH. The entire Foundation community is deeply grateful to each and every one of our donors.  The success of this fundraising campaign is a testimony to the extraordinary generosity of extraordinary people, community groups, service clubs, as well as small and large businesses.” PCH Foundation Board and Staff, work in … Continued

Lights for Life Results

Each November for the past 19 years the Prince County Hospital Foundation has sent a mailing to its donors in hopes that they will be able to help others while remembering and honouring those they love.  And each December, the Foundation is astounded at the results of Lights for Life.  What began as a humble lighting ceremony in 1995 has grown to an event that kicks off the Christmas season in our County.  And the $30,000 raised in year one has grown to over $208,000 raised in 2013 alone.  Once again, it was the largest Lights for Life ever.  “The Foundation can only hope for such a wonderful response again in 2014 when we celebrate 20 years of ‘Remembering Someone You Love,” remarked Heather Matheson, PCH Foundation’s Managing Director. The Foundation could not hold Lights for Life without the continued support of the Prince County Hospital administration and staff, many volunteers, and of course the ever important sponsors.  The Foundation would like to thank the following sponsors for making Lights for Life such a success this year: Presenting Sponsors – the Credit Unions of Prince County (Consolidated, Évangéline-Central, Malpeque Bay, and Tignish); Gold Sponsors – MBS Radio (Q93, SPUD 102, … Continued
