2022 Vital Signs Greatest Needs Appeal Results

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“PCH FOUNDATION SURPASSES 2022 GOAL”

February 13, 2023

Summerside, PE True to their motto of “getting better together,” the Prince County Hospital Foundation reports surpassing its $2.3 million goal for 2022 thanks to thousands of community donations. This success means that all the medical equipment on the 2022 Vital Signs list of greatest needs can be purchased. In fact, many pieces are already on site and in use. Key components of the appeal, the three Ultrasound Machines needed in Diagnostic Imaging are an example of “donor dollars at work” at PCH where they are already helping patients daily, according to the Foundation. The hospital was also able to exchange twenty-six aging beds with top of the line replacements to add more comfort for patients. The complete list of equipment to be replaced impacts nearly every department at the hospital and thousands of patients from every corner of PEI.

The PCH Foundation notes that the community supports them through a wide variety of means. Gifts are received annually through memorial gifts, community events, gifts in wills, pledged and monthly donations, golf events, as well as signature events like Grass Roots and Cowboy Boots and Lights for Life – both of which had very successful outings in 2022.

“On behalf of our volunteer board of directors and the staff at the Foundation, and on behalf of PCH and the patients we serve, I want to say thank you to the thousands of Islanders who have made this possible,” says newly minted PCH Foundation president Gordon MacFarlane. “Every dollar donated from the community helps their hospital stay fully-equipped to handle whatever is presented to our amazing healthcare team. Not only that, but a fully-equipped PCH is in a much better position when it comes to attracting and retaining those essential staff members.”

The PCH Foundation has begun planning for their 2023 appeal launching in spring. Though the list of greatest needs has just been finalized, the Foundation can confirm that the Vital Signs Appeal will be over $2.3 million and include a request from Surgical Services for the replacement of their Endoscopes, a key tool in the department. The upgrade of hospital beds is an ongoing project and another focus of the coming appeal.
