Donors, board members, staff and interested parties gathered in the PCH cafeteria May 19th for PCH Foundation’s Annual Meeting. The purpose of this event is to recap the year that was 2009 and to thank those that made it such a successful year for the Prince County Hospital Foundation. The evening’s program was presided over by current Foundation volunteer President Bill Thompson and it began with Chelsea Mills, President of Youth Who Care, who recapped a very successful year for their board. Also, Arlene Gallant Bernard brought remarks on behalf of PCH and its administration. PCH Auxiliary president Georgene Enman brought greetings on behalf of her organization and reminisced on what a great fundraising year they’d had in 2009, donating nearly $50,000 to the PCH Foundation.
Remarks were also given by PCH Chief of Surgical Services, Dr. David Bannon “I am a living, breathing example of how your efforts have helped healthcare delivery. You, as a foundation and community, put the tools into our hands,” said Dr. Bannon.
“There’s a lot to do. We all know that healthcare costs are going to increase. Technology becomes more sophisticated and it doesn’t become cheaper. We very much appreciate that this community has come together to provide resources for us to do the work we need to do.” Past President Derek Key spoke on behalf of the Prince County Hospital Foundation. Says Key, “The best hope that we have to ensure that quality care in the western half of the province will continue in the future, is to ensure that we continue to offer, at the healthcare level, the very best care, the very best service, the very best equipment, and the very best consistent financial support.” Mr. Key went on to express gratitude to everyone who made 2009 a successful year for the PCH Foundation and the communities it serves.
Both Mr. Thompson and Mr. Key had the distinct honour of presenting a symbolic cheque for $753,800 to Dr. Peter MacKean (accepting on behalf of PCH). These funds generated by the 2009 campaign efforts will support PCH in replacing priority medical equipment as detailed in the 2009 Vital Signs Campaign. President Thompson also took this opportunity to thank those who made gifts to the hospital in 2009 in the categories within President’s Society.
