Lights for Life 2013

This year’s ‘Lights for Life’ campaign is underway !.  On Wednesday evening December 4th at 6:30PM, all are invited to attend the 19th annual “Lights for Life” event at Prince County Hospital. As always, the community will come together to remember loved ones and celebrate the coming holiday season. When donors dedicate a light or display, in honour or in memory of someone special, they help purchase the medical equipment needed at the PCH.  All of the donations received before November 23rd at noon will be entered into a dedication book that is distributed at the event on December 4th.

“Lights for Life is truly the kick off to the holiday season,” says Heather Matheson, PCH Foundation’s Managing Director.  “It is a great opportunity to remember or honour a loved one at this time of year and all of the funds raised support the purchase of vital integral medical equipment for the patients at the Prince County Hospital.  We are incredibly grateful for the support of the Lights for Life donors over these past 19 years.  And this year, during our largest campaign goal to date, their support is more important than ever.”  The event remains a tremendous help to the hospital – last year it raised over $207,000.  And this year, Lights for Life will help a great deal the Foundation’s goal to raise $1.3 Million for medical equipment.

Returning to the lighting display this year are the Grand Arch, the Snowflakes, the Toy Train, and the Nutcrackers and a new Gingerbread Boy has been added.   As always, the centerpiece of the display will be the Celebration Tree.  The Credit Unions of Prince County are once again the presenting sponsors of the event, joining Lights for Life for the sixth year.  “The support of the Credit Unions and other sponsors is vital to the success of Lights for Life; it would not be possible without them.  Their help ensures every dollar donated is used for the purchase of priority medical equipment for Prince County Hospital,” says Heather Matheson.

Since its inception in 1995, when it raised $30,000 for the PCH, Lights for Life has grown into the Island’s largest holiday fundraiser. Cumulatively, it has raised over $2.2 million to support new medical equipment for the Prince County Hospital.  A fundraiser in which everyone can participate, there are dedication lights starting at $10.  White, red, blue, green, and gold lights are available for dedication, as are various larger displays.  Gifts to Lights for Life and other PCH Foundation projects can be made by calling the Foundation office at 432-2547, donating securely online at www.pchcare.com, or you can visit the Foundation office in the lobby at PCH. To ensure your donation is included in the annual “Lights for Life” dedication book, donors are encouraged to make their gift before Saturday, November 23rd at noon.
